TOYOTA - BEST SALES IN FOUR YEARS

TLCC President 05 Mar 2014
Automotive market leader Toyota Australia has recorded its best new-vehicle sales since 2010 for the first two months of the year.

Official figures released today show Toyota dealers sold an industry-high total of 29,846 vehicles in January and February, 1.5 per cent more than for the same period last year.

Toyota's 2014 tally is already more than 11,200 sales ahead of its nearest rival, placing it in line for a 12th consecutive year as Australia's best-selling automotive brand.

Toyota's four-year sales high has also resulted in its market share improving by 92 basis points to 17.6 per cent this year, compared with the same period last year.

The latest figures show Toyota dealers sold 16,200 vehicles last month - the best February since 2010.

Toyota's February sales represent an increase of 1.1 per cent compared with the same month last year and comes on the back of a January year-on-year result that was also improved.

Corolla and HiLux were again Toyota's best-selling vehicles in February with HiLux reversing January's result to claim top spot by just 15 sales - 3,348 to 3,333.

HiLux 4x2 and 4x4 were joined by Toyota's Camry sedan, 86 sports coupe, LandCruiser 200, HiAce van and HiAce bus in leading their respective sales segments in February.

Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the company's results so far this year were particularly pleasing in the face of an overall market that has eased slightly.

"The Australian new-vehicle market remains strong with seasonally adjusted figures pointing to another full-year result of 1.1 million sales," Mr Cramb said.

"Purchases by business are showing signs of improvement, which is a welcome sign as consumers continue to assess economic signals that suggest neither a surge in sales nor a downturn of any size," he said.

"Toyota's gains in sales and market share augur well for the year, especially with an all-new Kluger SUV to be launched this month following the February arrival of a new-generation Corolla sedan."
