Only TLCC Members may participate as drivers in Club Trips. Members who book for Club Trips must have completed the TLCC Course in Recreational Four Wheel Driving prior to participation in the trip.

FUNKHANA & BUSH DANCE Dates: Saturday and Sunday 26th & 27th May, 2012 Location: Willowglen Grade: All good fun Limit: None – everyone is welcome, including kids Requirements: Bring your camping gear and your drinks Details: This will be fun weekend for everyone so book it in to your calendar. There will be 9 competitive fun events that will test your driving skills, and as usual the competition is open to ALL members, male and female. There will be entertainment and events for the kids as well. Food tent offering inexpensive brekky, lunch and drinks will be operating on both days. There will be a good old fashioned bush dance on Saturday night with a BBQ dinner and a great bush band. Entry fee of $10.00 per driver for the Funkhana but the BBQ and bush dance are FREE for members so bring your glad rags and let your hair down! Prizes on offer for the Funkhana winners! SIMPSON DESERT, PAINTED DESERT, FLINDERS RANGES (Fully booked - Reserves taken) Dates: Friday 25 May to Saturday 9 June Grade: Medium Limit: 6 vehicles Requirements: Standard recovery gear, camping gear, in car uhf radio Fuel: Full at Birdsville Trip Details: Starting from Birdsville, plan to spend 5/6 days in the Simpson Desert following the GAA line and French line to Dalhousie Springs. From the springs to Oodnadatta then on to the Painted Desert staying at Arckaringa homestead 3/4 days. From Arckaringa homestead to Williams Creek/Marree, then on to the Flinders Ranges for 3/4 days. JELLORE STATE FOREST [MITTAGONG]-DAY TRIP (Fully booked - Reserves taken) Date: Saturday 9 June 2011 Grade: Medium Limit: 8 vehicles Requirements: Good A/T or M/T tyres or equivalent, suspension lift recommended Equipment: Standard recovery gear, tools and spares, a vehicle mounted 5 watt UHF radio. Bring a chair, warm clothes and your camping gear if you are going to stay at Koolandilly over night Fuel: Full at Mittagong Trip Details: A day trip through the Jellore State Forest then continue on to Koolandilly for the fireworks spectacular and a sausage sizzle. Trip consists 4WD tracks, some rocky sections, may be some bush pin striping & scratches. BYO morning tea & lunch, a late afternoon tea will be at Koolandilly. Bring a camera if you'd like to take a snap shot, some beautiful views from rock ledges.Trip will conclude at Koolandilly. Overnight camping is available at the property for those who wish to stay after the fireworks. Other: Kids welcome. Not suitable for trailers. KOOLANDILLY TO MT VICTORIA VIA ABERCROMBIE NP Dates: Sunday 10 & Monday 11 June 2012 Grade: Easy – Medium (suitable for new members) Limit: 8 vehicles Requirements: A well maintained vehicle equipped with good A/T or M/T tyres or equivalent and UHF radio Equipment: Standard recovery gear, camping equipment, self sufficient for 2 days. Fuel: Full at Mittagong, next fuel nearest Abercrombie NP is Black Springs. Trip distance approximately 320 kms from Mittagong (150 kms in 4WD) Trip Details: A new twist on an old favourite tackling the interesting fire trails in the Abercrombie National Park. This is a recce trip in order to compile extensive trip notes for future use. We will be departing Koolandilly early on Sunday after the Fireworks on Saturday. The route to reach the more demanding eastern entrance to the park will follow a good part of the New Members Trip route in reverse. Expect bush camping and bring your sense of fun and adventure. MUNGO DARLING (Fully booked - Reserves taken) Dates: Saturday 30 June to Saturday 14 July 2012 Grade: Medium Limit: 8 vehicles Requirements: Good A/T tyres Equipment: Standard recovery gear, tent or camper trailer, in-truck UHF radio. Fuel: Standard load is fine. Trip Details: We’ll run straight down to Mungo National Park via Willandra NP and tour those areas where giant wombats used to roam. Then up along the Darling River via Menindee Lakes, Kallara & Trilby stations as we try out our fishing, yabbying, canoeing, cooking and afternoon sleeping skills before a stopover in Bourke then home. The trip will be characterised by relaxing stays in one spot interspersed with some long drives. Kids, Camper Trailers, Tents & a sense of humour all welcome !. Other: Kids, Binoculars, Giant Wombat recognition books, Fishing gear, Yabby traps, camp ovens and off-road capable camper trailers welcome. Carry supplies for 5 days in case your fishing and yabbying are below par. Camping will usually be in National parks, sheep stations and caravan parks such that access to amenities will be available. PILBARA & KIMBERLEYS (Fully booked - Reserves taken) Dates: Mid June depart from Sydney & return Sydney mid August (8 weeks) Notes: Actual dates will be confirmed with participants but we will be leaving Sydney on Monday and return on the Friday at the end of eighth week. Plan is for 8 weeks trip that will allow participants to combine two sets (2 x 4 weeks) of annual leave. It will have school holidays included, with most probable dates Monday 18 June 2012 to Friday 10 August 2012. NSW School Holidays Saturday 30/6/12 to Sunday 15/7/12 Grade: Medium to difficult depending on weather and route. Could have bush camping for up to 7 days in a row Limit: 8 vehicles Requirements: Good A/T or M/T tyres Equipment: Standard recovery gear, camping gear, spares, rated recovery points, UHF with long range aerial. Need to carry supplies (food and water) for minimum of 14 days Fuel: Minimum 1000 km range is required - portions of trip in low gear Trip Details: Details of route are to be completed with participants’ input. Current concept is to do a circuit using sealed roads as little as possible, using two of the following routes in or out of Western Australia:— Anne Beadell Highway, Tanami Road or Eighty-Mile Beach to Kuawarritji to Alice Springs. Access to and from Western Australia and particular area will take around 7 days each way. Preference will be given to those doing the full trip but those wishing to do either area without the other area will need around 6 weeks and will be considered if vehicle limit not reached for full trip. Other: Camper trailers are welcome, but only if participant certain that they are capable of completing the trip. In view of the need to obtain numerous permits to pass through aboriginal, government and conservation areas closing date will be 31 December 2011. As well fuel will need to be booked to ensure supplies are available in some remote locations. This trip we will be on the move most days leaving camp at 08:00 (local time), and depending on conditions, arriving to set up camp around 16:30. It is suggested that participants have completed a trip of at least a week to appreciate what it means to be on the move everyday. FANTASTIC 4 – LEN BEADELL TRACKS (Fully booked - Reserves taken) Dates: Mon 4 June to Sat 7 July Grade: Hard remote touring. All vehicles MUST be in first class mechanical condition Limit: 6 vehicles Requirements: ATR tyres minimum, must start with at least 50 per cent tread remaining. One complete spare wheel and at least one spare tyre as well. Upgraded suspension etc preferred. Fully functional in-dash UHF radio Equipment: Camping & standard recovery gear etc. Must be able to carry food & water etc for 21 days & all relevant vehicle spares - e.g. shocks, belts, hoses etc Fuel: Full at Alice Springs. Each vehicle must be able to carry sufficient fuel for 800 kms at very high consumption levels Trip Details: Gary Junction from Alice Springs to Sandy Blight Junction; Sandy Blight Road to Docker River; Great Central Road from Docker River to Connie Sue; Connie Sue to Ann Beadell Highway then to Coober Pedy. Longest distance without fuel is around 700klms from Ilkurlka to Coober Pedy on the Ann Beadell Highway. Total distance for the 4 tracks (not including side trips) is around 2200kms, so at about 100klms per day this works out at around 3 weeks for this component. Highlights (amongst others still to be researched): Possible side trip to Len Beadell’s burnt out ration truck: Possible track on the way to Alice/Hay River from Poeppel Corner to the Plenty Highway: Visit Giles Meteorological Station and see Len’s grader as well as Len’s hand painted cartoons: 60 kilometres to the south of Neale Junction to have a look at the Neale Breakaways: Not to be missed is Waterfall Gorge: Emu airfield: Totem 1 & 2 – Ground zero: Obelisks of atomic testing: Len Beadell plaques: Light aircraft wreck apparently still reasonably intact. Other: Len Beadell is regarded as the "last true Australian Explorer" for opening up over 2.5 million square kilometres of rugged Australian Outback. A meeting will be held prior to the trip to sort out the finer details. FLINDERS RANGES AND STREZLECKI TRACK: (Fully booked - Reserves taken) Dates: Wed 18 July to Fri 27 July 2012 Starting at: Dig Tree Camping Ground, Wednesday 18th July 08:00, near Nappa Merry Qld & Innamincka SA. Finishing at: Quorn SA, Friday 27th July 15:00 Grade: Easy Limit: 8 vehicles. Sorry already full, but reserve names list open. Requirements: Good A/T or M/T tyres, rated recovery points, vehicle mounted long range aerial and UHF radio. Equipment: Basic recovery gear, camping gear, self sufficient for 3 days at a time. Fuel: Full at departure point, multiple fuel points along the way, longest distance without fuel approx. 500km in high range. Trip Details: Travel down Old Strezlecki Track to Montecollina Bore then on Eastern road into Flinders North. Then travel around Flinders North & Arkaroola and Paralana Springs. Will travel out to Leigh Creek SA. Then Using the blacktop to Marree and Lake Eyre flight then travel to Leigh Creek and Flinders South via Beltana for plinkity plonk. On to Wilpeena Pound and then Oraparinna, Stokes Hill & Hucks. Last day Flinders South to Quorn SA and end of trip. Other: We will be bush camping with facilities. New members are welcome. Vehicles must be fully serviced and well maintained and carry suitable spares. Should carry sufficient food and water for at least 3-4 days (in case of bad weather somewhere). SIMPSON DESERT MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE Dates: Approx 21 September to 3 October 2012 Notes: This is a request to TLCC members by a race competitor who is not a Club member Grade: Medium to hard Requirements: Be support crew and vehicle for a competitor in the Bike Challenge Details: Event is a mountain bike race across the Simpson to Birdsville in aid of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Sydney based competitor Murray Rook has contacted TLCC and is looking for someone with a suitable vehicle and driving skills who would be interested in supporting him during the 2012 race. The race will be run over 5 days from 25 Sept to 29 Sept but additional travelling time is necessary to/from event. BARRINGTON TOPS SEARCH & RESCUE EXERCISE 2012 Dates: Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 October 2012 Grade: Medium if dry, Hard if wet. Limit: TBA - depends on number of searchers to be transported Requirements: Navigation and Map reading skills & able to use a UHF CB radio Equipment: Recovery gear, track clearing gear, camping gear, roof rack to carry search team’s packs (optional), vehicle mounted UHF CB, GPS Maps: Barrington Tops 9133-1N, Carrabolla 9133-1S, Carrowbrook 9133-2N, all Second Edition 1:25,000 Fuel: Depending on where you are based, full from Maitland or Scone Trip Details: The Club is a valued participant in the annual Barrington Tops Search & Rescue Exercise (SAREX) which sees several agencies including NSW Police, WICEN, BWRS, Army, SES and the TLCC get together to practice what they do best within the structure of a SAREX. The focus for the exercise is the light aircraft VH-MDX which disappeared in the Barringtons 31 years ago with 5 men on board and has never been found. Put simply, our role is to transport anything and anyone (mainly searchers of the BWRS). The 2012 search areas will at this stage be very similar to the 2011 search area (see Trip Report Jan/Feb 2012) with separate bases at Lostock Scout Camp and Stewarts Brook Recreation Reserve. Other: The search itself is organised overall by the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad (BWRS) and it gets underway early on Saturday so ideally participants should be in the area by Friday evening.
